Hi, this advert really touched us. We have a strong focus on advocacy and we often find blind people discriminated against. The braille menus that are available at Wimpy make life so much more independent for blind people. We hope that Wimpy continues to support blind people and we've got many ideas and communication channels open for Wimpy to use to alert people with visual impairments.

We're a national, umbrella body consisting of over 100 member organisations (of which BlindSA is but one). We advocate for and provide services to blind people all over SA. We also do sensitization for companies and can provide skilled and trained blind people for employment opportunities as well. If any companies want to help us they should be in contact with us via our website at www.sancb.org.za or contact us at 0124523811.

Arthur you make a very good point. It is frustrating that consumerism is sometimes the very issue that we struggle to overcome, but in the bigger scheme of things, I'd hate to think that just means we give up roll over and bury our head in the sand. Would it not be more proactive to think it through and try to find a solution?

Hi Brian
Thanks for your praise. :)
I think the strongest points of the African Brand is its diversity. Africa is so rich and full of cultural difference and this difference bring potential to the table in the form of its massive mix that makes it exciting and unique to explore and discover.
In as much as it is a strong point, I think its diversity is also its biggest draw back from the point of view that the massive cultural differences fragment Africa's ability to work collectively in a united way.

Jack
I think Africa is a Brand in as much as we all have an Identity. I may be generalising in that Africa is made up of 52 nations, so maybe you could argue the point from that perspective, but it is defiantly a whole lot more than a bunch of market traders!

Brad

Firstly you are not forced to read my blog, but I thank you for choosing to. Secondly I am not sure I see where the whining you mention is, but if that is your analysis of this post then I accept that.
Africa is a challenging place. Suggesting that I am looking to repair something that was broken by people too busy to care in the first place is a very small minded opinion. There are many reasons that Africa finds itself in the situation it now stands in. Fingers could be pointed in many directions.
To my mind you are suggesting that when a man is down you simply walk past him and leave him down to die.
Personally that I see that as selfish and the very reason the world is in the mess its in. If you can't be bothered to help your fellow man, then you are certainly not part of what I'd call the community of mankind.
Learning to help one another, share and promote unity and prosperity is what being alive is all about. If you choose to think differently that is your choice, but I'd hate to live the life you lead.
There are bigger things in the world than your ego.

Melisa I am awfully sorry you had to experience something so dreadful. I can understand how you would feel after that happened to you, but the truth is that it could have happened to you in your own country.

Crime is a universal problem, not just specific to Africa. Had you been mugged in Rio you would have been lucky to escape with your life. Were you targeted in the US you may well have been shot. These are just a few examples.

Crime happens everywhere, and I'm sorry you are a victim of crime, but suggesting that Africa is a bad bad place is wrong. Africa is beautiful and for very few bad people, there are millions of wonderful, kind, generous and beautiful people.

I hope one day you decide to return to Africa a see the beauty of it. It would be unfortunate to paint the whole nation with the same colour as a few wicked people.
